The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
It will be released on February 28, 2017 by Balzer + Bray.
The moment I found out about this book, it automatically went on my TBR list. I had to read this. It was inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. I want to read and see through someone else’ eyes. I am white and I could not even understand how People of Color felt when they are facing this. I understand being oppressed due to me being Deaf but it isn’t the same.
I have already preordered this book and I am excited!
Synopsis
Sixteen-year-old Starr lives in two worlds: the poor neighbourhood where she was born and raised and her posh high school in the suburbs. The uneasy balance between them is shattered when Starr is the only witness to the fatal shooting of her unarmed best friend, Khalil, by a police officer. Now what Starr says could destroy her community. It could also get her killed. Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl’s struggle for justice.
Movie rights have been sold to Fox, with Amandla Stenberg (The Hunger Games) to star.
I’m so excited for The Hate U Give! Every review I’ve read so far talk about how much they loved it!
