As you well know, I wanted to read Adult Fantasy Books in July and guess what? Didn’t happen. I finally read one book. Didn’t finish it. Are no one surprised? I am taking my time, though. I’ll explain why in a bit.
Since I didn’t really read much in July (ha), I’m planning on expending it to August and taking my sweet time. I don’t think I’m going to finish off the list that I set up here.
Here are the books that I’m hoping for August.
The Poppy War // R.F. Kuang
I’m reading this slowly as I just said. I wanted to write down a lot of notes when it comes to history because I have a feeling it’ll be talked about throughout the series as well as a list of characters that popped up so I won’t forget who is who. When it comes to fantasy books, I tend to forget quite a lot.
I’m getting nervous though, to get to the end of the book. I have heard so many people saying it’s heartbreaking. I already ask for The Dragon Republic for my anniversary gift from my boyfriend. *fingers crossed*
Red Sister // Mark Lawrence
I have been hearing so many things about this. I actually had this from the library and was going to borrow it again when Amazon Kindle has this for $1.99 (I believe you can still get it at that price) so I won’t feel any pressure to return it. I can take my time.
The reason why I wanted to read this is because of assassin nuns. I mean… I’m very curious about where it’ll lead. I’ll borrow Grey Sister and Holy Sister again if I end up liking Red Sister.
The Kingdom of Copper // S.A. Chakraborty
The City of Brass is one of my favorite books of 2019 and I truly want to read this and enjoy the hell out of it. I am thinking to reread The City of Brass because I already forget some things and some of the characters.
I wanted to do the same thing as I did with The Poppy War. Take a lot of notes to familiarize myself with the story and have it all ready to go when The Empire of Gold comes out in February.
Jade City // Fonda Lee
I’m looking forward to reading this and Jade War (I still need to get my own copy of the new novel). CW at the Quiet Pond has praised the duology and It’s making me want to see why!
The reason why I want to read this is that the characters are morally gray. I think I would enjoy that over the heroes/villains characters for at least this month. I also heard that within the story, even though there’s a plot, it’s more character-driven novel. I would be going to be enjoying that quite a lot.
Fence, Volume Three // C.S. Pacat & Johanna the Mad
I thought since I’m going to read primary fantasy and pretty much every single of these will bring me pain and a lot of mental focus. I thought to combat that with graphic novels and maybe some contemporary novels (just not sure what it will be yet).
I have read Volume One & Two this past June and enjoy them! I’m very curious to see where Volume Three will lead to. I hope in this volume, we’ll get to see some heart eyes.
The Backstagers, Vol. One & Two // James Tynion IV & Rian Sygh
I first heard about these graphic novels from Rogan @ Rogan Shannon. The way it was explained on what it is all about. I thought to myself, “yes, Nicole, read this… like now.” The colors on the covers alone, so beautiful. I can’t wait. Apparently, I’m not sure but some of the characters are LGBT+ and I’m all for it.
Ugh poppy war and dragon republic is my new illuminae (sp?) I’m gonna get killed by the book fairies. But you’ve had a great readathon and August looks good!

I didn’t really have a great readathon because I didn’t read a thing till the very last week and didn’t even finish it. I’m hoping though to make it up for it in August. Yeah The Poppy War, I am at the part were nothing bad is happening but you can tell it’s coming.. nervous about that.

But it certainly looks like you read a lot. Maybe I read the Requirements wrong. I’ve never actually participated in one so this is completely possible. I keep hearing about it. I have to get to it (PW).

No, I wanted to read these books in July but never got to. I have a hard time now picking up books because there are so many distractions. Some months, I can read up to four but some months, not even a single word. July is that month. I’m hoping August will be different this time around.
