Hello! I’m excited to join in this readathon because it sounds fantastic. I haven’t been really reading anything related to the fantasy genre since I finished The City of Brass and the first two books of the Wayward Children series. I hope I have finished quite a few in the month of June. If not, dang it. Because I’m hoping to start and finish Middlegame and Book of the Ancestor series.
I am not going to read a lot of books in July in case the reading slump is still lingering around but I do hope to finish quite a few books.
Fun Fact: the name of the readathon came from A Song of Ice & Fire by George R. R. Martin and it’s Aimal’s favorite series.
Here’s the information that you’d need for the readathon:
- It is being hosted by Aimal @ bookshelves and paperbacks. Check out the link for more details!
- It is taking place from July 1st to 31st.
- A MONTH OF READING ADULT FANTASY!
The House that I’m going to join is…
House Martell!
My Tentative TBR (subject to change)
I know that I will not be going to read every single book that I have listed below. They are just there for me to decide what to read. One thing for sure, I will be read the book in the Castle Black section. I will post a wrap-up post detailing how I did, how many pages that I have read, and which books that I have read.
Castle Black:
You must read the group book
I’m excited to read this because the sequel, The Dragon Republic is coming out next month in August!
I want to caution you guys on the trigger warnings for this book though, especially in chapter 21. If you don’t think you are able to read Chapter 21, Aentee at Read At Midnight has posted a summary of the chapter if you want to read them. It’s right here. Full content warnings apply for: death, violence (graphically described), rape, torture, self-harm, drug abuse, addiction.
There will be a Twitter chat on July 28th, 12PM EST where we talk about the book and the readathon at @IronTomeAThon.
Winterfell:
You must read a book set (partially or fully) in a cold environment
I’m excited to finally at least, start this book because this is on my 2019 TBR list. So excited to read this. I was hoping to read this during December but I have no patience.
If I happen to finish this book before July, I will read the next book in the series, The Girl in the Tower.
King’s Landing:
You must read a book about or involving royalty, politics or government
I’m excited to read The Kingdom of Copper after reading The City of Brass earlier this year. I adore The City of Brass. I love The City of Brass. I am not looking forward to 2020. Nope. Nope. Nope. I want to know if my loves will be okay! I hope so… but… sighs.
This book is one of my largest books on this TBR and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to finish it in one month because of another book you’ll see why. When I’m reading a big book, it always takes me such a long time to finish them but it shouldn’t.
Sunspear:
you must read a fantasy book inspired by a non-Western setting, or read a book by an author of color or an indigenous author
I was reading this back in April but I had to return it back to the library so I’ll put this book on hold (& schedule) again and have it be ready to go for July. I am loving this so far. I am so curious to see where this is going.
If I happen to finish the book or couldn’t get it from the library, I’m planning on reading on whatever comes up for this category since I have few options.
Oldtown:
You must read a book about or involving an institution of knowledge or training
Like I said at the beginning of the post, I am hopeful that I am finished with the series but if not, I’m planning to read any of the books in the series. I have heard so many good things about these and I am hopeful that I will like it. Not sure what to read for this challenge if I have to return the series back to the library. Any suggestions?
Valyria:
You must read a book about or involving dragons
Yeah, this is the book that I was talking about back in King’s Landing section. I honestly don’t know if this is the book for this challenge. I find the size of The Priory of the Orange Tree too ambitious for me. 804 pages. Eh. If I couldn’t go for The Priory, I will be reading The Invisible Library.
Asshai:
You must read a dark/grimdark fantasy or read an urban fantasy
I loved Trail of Lightning. I am curious to see what Maggie is up to in Storm of Locusts. But at the same time, the sequel to Jade City is coming out later in July. Decisions, decision. Which one should I read first?
