Welcome back to Bookish News! Here’s the news that I have gathered over the month of November.

Please let me know of any news that I missed in November and I am more than happy to update this post. Also, let me know of any other sources that would let me know of Authors’ news such as a new book deal, cover reveals, etc. Thank you!

Book News

The Color Purple Movie Musical!?
Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, and Steven Spielberg are getting back together to film an adaptation of Alice Walker‘s 1982 book, The Color Purple but this time around, it’s going to be a movie musical! It is going to be based on the Tony winner version. No more information as of yet. (Source).

Erin Morgenstern Finally!
Erin Morgenstern is coming out with a brand new novel! It is slated to be published November 5, 2019. It is going to be called The Starless Sea. Please check out the link for the synopsis. (Source).

Julie Abe’s New Novel!
Eva Evergreen, Semi-Magical Witch, a middle-grade novel, will be released Spring 2020. It is set in “a Japanese-inspired fantasy world where a 12-year old must travel to a seaside town in order to complete her adept witch training, or risk losing her magic forever.” It looks like it is going to be a duology. I may be wrong. (Source).

Stan Lee Passed Away at 95.
Today (November 12th) we found out that Stan Lee; who with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko has created Iron Man, Thor, Loki, etc; has died at age 95. Rest in Peace.

Amazon’s Best Books of 2018!
Educated by Tara Westover, Washington Black by Esi Edugyan, and The Line Becomes a River: Dispatches from the Border by Francisco Cantú are among the books that were listed. Please check the link for a full list. (Source).

Brandy Colbert’s Debut Middle Grade!
The Only Black Girls In Town will be published in Spring 2020. It is about “the complex friendship between the only two black girls in their California central coast beach town, as they discover hidden journals that uncover family secrets and speak to race relations in the South.” (Tweet).

Mackezi Lee’s New Book!
According to Mackezi’s tweet, she’ll have a brand new book coming out in Fall 2019. It is going to be called The History of the World in Fifty Dogs. It is going to be similar to her other book, Bygone Badass Broads. It is about “retelling some history’s most memorable moments and movements through the lens of the dogs that saw them happen.” (Tweet).

2018 National Book Award Winners!
The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, The Emissary by Yoko Tawada & translated by Margaret Mitsutani, and Indecency by Justin Philip Reed are among the winners. Please check the link for the full list of winners. Congratulations! (Source).

Jenna Clare’s New Poetry Book!
According to Jenna’s tweet, she is going to self-publish a poetry book, Water Runs Red, coming out next Spring. “It’s a fantasy-themed, narrative poetry collection that’s based on personal experience.” The Cover, the date, and pre-order info are TBA.  (Tweet).

Aminah Mae Safi’s New Book!
Feiwel and Friends have acquired Aminah Mae Safi’s new YA untitled novel, inspired by Empire Records. It is slated to be published during Summer 2020. I think I am going to enjoy this one a lot because it is about “three teens (a bookstagrammer, an aspiring poet, and a girl living through her Britney moment) set out to save their dying local bookstore.” (Source).

The Odyssey Translation Is Now an Audiobook!
According to the article, in 2017, Emily Wilson was the first female that translated The Odyssey into English. It is now going to be an Audiobook and it will be narrated by Claire Danes. We know that The Odyssey has been translated so many times, but never by a woman, till now. The audiobook is out now on Audible. (Source).

Kerri Maniscalco’s New Book Title!
There is a new title for Kerri’s fourth book in the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. It is going to be called Capturing the Devil. It is slated to be published on September 26th. (Source).

Yoshi Yoshitani’s New Deck and Book!
This one is interesting and unique. How so, you ask? Well, Yoshi Yoshitani is going to publish her tarot deck with Thao Le and (maybe others) stories. It is going to be called The Fairytale Tarot and it is slated to be published in Spring 2020. It is based on “fairy tales, myths, and legends from all around the world.” Apparently, it’s going to have both physical deck and a book! (I hope I did this one justice). (Tweet).

The Handmaid’s Tale Sequel!
We all found out that The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood is getting a sequel. It is going to be called The Testaments, “the sequel will be narrated by three female characters and will be set 15 years after the last scene of The Handmaid’s Tale.” It is set to be published on September 10, 2019. The preorders are already up here(Source).

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before Sequel?!
Well! After the success that To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, we are officially getting a sequel! Apparently, there’s a multipicture deal between Netflix and Paramount Pictures, since Disney and Warner Bros is withholding their own movies from Netflix for their own streaming services. After signing a new deal, guess what? The sequel was the first films to be discussed. YES. (Source). (Source).

City of Ghosts to Became a TV Show!
CW is going to adapt Victoria Schwab’s City of Ghosts as a one hour Drama series. “Karen Wyscarver and Sanford Golden serve as writers and executive producers on the adaptation. Their previous TV credits include Taken, NCIS: New Orleans, Bones.” (Source).
