The Boneless Mercies by April Genevieve Tucholke

The Boneless Mercies

It is set to be published on October 2, 2018, by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux (Byr).

I love the cover. 2018 is shaping up to be one of my favorite years cover-wise. It’s so beautiful. I love the colors. The navy blue with bright red, it is making the shapes pop. Can see the trees and the people, even with the small details in the C of Mercies. I love how they do the “The.” It’s different. I also love the typography in this. It somehow works in here. You don’t see that kind of typography in a YA cover, or even in an Adult cover.

I cannot wait for this book! A gender-bending retelling of Beowulf!? Sign. Me. Up. I don’t see a retelling of Beowulf like ever, so excited! Four females fighting and slaying monsters? Oh yes, I want to see them kick ass!

A dark and gorgeously drawn standalone YA fantasy about a band of mercenary girls in search of female glory. Won in a major six-house auction!

Frey, Ovie, Juniper, and Runa are the Boneless Mercies — girls hired to kill quickly, quietly, and mercifully. But Frey is weary of the death trade and, having been raised on the heroic sagas of her people, dreams of a bigger life.

When she hears of an unstoppable monster ravaging a nearby town, Frey decides this is the Mercies’ one chance out. The fame and fortune of bringing down such a beast would ensure a new future for all the Mercies. In fact, her actions may change the story arc of women everywhere.

Full of fierce girls, bloodlust, tenuous alliances, and unapologetic quests for glory, this elegantly spun tale challenges the power of storytelling — and who gets to be the storyteller. Perfect for fans of Maggie Stiefvater, V.E. Schwab, and Heidi Heilig.
