On the Come Up by Angie Thomas
It is expected to be released on June 5, 2018, by Balzer + Bray.
I’m so excited to get this in June! I have to admit, I have not read The Hate U Give BUT I am planning on to right before this novel gets released in June. I’m excited for Angie to show us Bri. Based on what I’ve heard about The Hate U Give and Starr, I am expecting Bri will be as awesome as Starr is.
I adore the cover! It is different compared to The Hate U Give but yet, it’s united with the novel. It’s very simple and very powerful. I love the typography. It works. It screams music in some way.
Sixteen-year-old Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Or at least get some streams on her mixtape. As the daughter of an underground rap legend who died right before he hit big, Bri’s got massive shoes to fill. But when her mom unexpectedly loses her job, food banks and shut-off notices become as much a part of her life as beats and rhymes. With bills piling up and homelessness staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it — she has to make it.
