Welcome back to Bookish News! Here’s the news that I have gathered over the month of September. 

Please do let me know of any news that I missed in September and I am more than happy to update this post. Also, please do let me know of any other sources that would let me know of Authors’ news such as a new book deal, cover reveals, etc. Thank you!

Marie Lu’s Warcross Trailer!

Renée Watson’s Books Deal!
Renée Watson got five books deal with Bloomsbury! She is the author of Piecing Me Together and This Side of Home, and her debut middle grade novel, What Momma Left Me were named an ABA New Voices Pick. The deal brings one standalone Middle-Grade novel; it is set to be released in January 2019. It also brings one standalone Young Adult novel, set to be released in Winter 2020; the Middle-Grade novels is set to be released for Spring 2020 and Spring 2021. There will be a collaboration with poet Ellen Hagan (this will be her debut), Write Like a Girl, set for Spring 2019. (Source).

Victoria Aveyard’s 4th Book!
There has been an announcement of her 4th book title! It is going to be called…dun…dun… War Storm! It is set to be released on May 15, 2018. (Source).

J. Sae-Jones’ New Four Books Deal!
J. Sae-Jones has a new book, Guardians of Dawn – an East Asian-inspired fantasy series that were inspired by Sailor Moon. It is about “four girls must combine their elemental magic to defeat a growing evil and restore the rightful heir to the throne.” It is set to be released at some point in Spring/Summer 2019! Tara Sim’s Chainbreaker News!
Chainbreaker has been pushed back from November 7th to January 2, 2018. (Twitter). On other news; Timebreaker paperback edition is set to be released on October 31st of this year! It will feature two chapter sneak peeks of Chainbreaker! (Twitter).

The Title Reveal for Book #2 in the Balloonmakers Series by Katherine Locke!
Her first book was released earlier this month and it is called The Girl with the Red Balloon. Now on to the reveal…. The Spy with the Red Balloon (Goodreads) is the title of the book #2 in the Balloonmakers series! It will be set to be released Fall 2018. According to Katherine on Goodreads: “1. This is not a sequel. It takes place about 45 years BEFORE the first book and has only one overlapping secondary character. New Books in the Grishaverse!
That’s right, Leigh Bardugo has announced that she will be releasing two new books! The first book in the duology, King of Scars will be released in Winter 2019 – unsure on the 2nd book. The duology will be centering on our King, Nikolai Lantsov. He appeared in the Shadow and Bone Trilogy. By the way, if you go to the source, you’ll see the kickass trailer! (Source).

TV News

The Valiant on TV!
Sorry for being late with this news! CW is to develop The Valiant by Lesley Livington. It will be made into an hour drama show. If it is ordered, it will join strong women that are already airing such as “…“Supergirl” with star Melissa Benoist, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” starring Golden Globe winner Rachel Bloom, “Jane the Virgin” starring Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez, and “iZombie” starring Rose McIver.” (Source).

AMC To Develop a New TV Drama Series!
AMC to Develop a New TV Drama Series of Wesley Lowery’s They Can’t Kill Us All: Ferguson, Baltimore, and a New Era in America’s Racial Justice. It was published back in 2016 by Little, Brown & Company. (Source).

Film News

More Cast News for The Hate U Give!
Anthony Mackie and Kian Lawley are to join The Hate U Give cast! Mackie will play the local drug dealer King and Kian will play Starr’s boyfriend, Chris. Please check out the August Bookish News for more casting news! (Source). (Bookish News | August 2017).

Wonderstruck A Movie!
Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick is made into a movie that is being distributed by Amazon Studios and Roadside Attractions on October 20, 2017. Brain Selznick also wrote the screenplay. The movie Cast: Oakes Fegley, Julianne Moore, Michelle Williams and Millicent Simmonds, and more. (Trailer).

Elle Fanning To Be In a Movie!
Mary Shelley “…as the 19th-century author who penned horror classic Frankenstein at the tender age of 18.” It has already been released on September 9, 2017. (Source).

Tom Hank To Be In a Movie!
Tom Hanks will produce and star in a new book adaptation. It is A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. He will be working with his partner, Gary Goetzman as well as his wife, Rita Wilson and Fredrik Wikstrom Nicastro. (Source).
