Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.
Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller
It is set to be released on August 29, 2017, by Sourcebooks Fire.
I have heard so many people who have this as an ARC and they’re loving it! The main character is gender fluid and this would be a wonderful read for teens who identify as gender fluid. It is so rare for even a character, main or side, that identifies as one. I am so excited to read this when it comes out later this month!
This is one of my favorite covers of the year. It is so beautiful. I love the touches of green, blue, yellow, and pink. I love how the weapons wrapped around and the colors of the weapons itself. I don’t like the typography alone but it works well with the artwork. It doesn’t take away from the artwork. I don’t know if the author’s name should be up at the top, maybe it should be under the title? I don’t know. It feels odd for it to be there, out of place.
Sallot Leon is a thief and a good one at that. But gender fluid Sal wants nothing more than to escape the drudgery of life as a highway robber and get closer to the upper-class and the nobles who destroyed their home.
When Sal Leon steals a poster announcing open auditions for the Left Hand, a powerful collection of the Queen’s personal assassins named for the rings she wears — Ruby, Emerald, Amethyst, and Opal — their world changes. They know it’s a chance for a new life.
Except the audition is a fight to the death filled with clever circus acrobats, lethal apothecaries, and vicious ex-soldiers. A childhood as a common criminal hardly prepared Sal for the trials. But Sal must survive to put their real reason for auditioning into play: revenge.
