May 9: Ten Things On Our Reading Wishlist
(topic has originally done January 2014) — things you want to see more of in books — tropes, a time period, a specific type of character, an issue tackled, a certain plot, etc. All those things that make you think I WANT MORE OF THIS IN BOOKS!
As you know, there are so many things I want to happen in books but it’s hard to find them because of authors like certain things only. I want to write them but I do not have skills to do so. So, here’s my wishlist and hope authors happen upon my post and write a novel based on my wish! That’d be awesome!
Historical Fictions // I love to read novels that are set in the United States or another country. Just wish most of them did not set in World War II. I haven’t read The Valiant by Lesley Livingston yet but it is a good example of a historical fiction novel that I would like to see happen. The book is set during Rome and the Gladiators.
Deaf Characters // Believe it or not, there is a lot of people that has some kind of hearing loss and I want to see them being presented more in the novels. You’re Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner is a good start to read. Just want more.
Matriarchs // I would love to read a YA or an Adult novel that happened to have a woman in power, trying to stop a war from happening or trying to improve for its citizens. Most of the time, it is men trying to do that. It’s time for us to see what us women can do.
LGBTIA+ characters // Obviously. Like, with Deaf characters, there are people that are in the spectrum of LGBTIA+ and it would make more senses if there are one or more in the books.
#ownvoices // Dude, I mean…
Cultural Diversity // I can think of one certain book that I am still reading but loving; The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, and I’m looking forward to reading When Dimple met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. I want more.
For LGBTQIA+, you should try David Levithan! He writes LGBTQIA+ characters really well, and they’re in almost all of his book!

Adam Silvera writes books with LGBTQIA+ characters, and The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness is diverse as well.

I have both of Adam Silvera’s books. I still need to get The Rest of Us Just Live Here. 🙂

I love your answers, especially matriarchs. I would love to see that. I read The Hate U Give not too long ago and I am obsessed with it! It’s such an awesome book😊

I really like what you said about historical fiction – that really is such an enormous genre, or it should be – but lately WWII historical fiction is pretty much the bulk. Hope you find a read that fills this hole for you soon!

Thank you. I don’t mind reading about WWII, but there is whole range of history right here and why are they not talked about? I hope I’ll be able to find some!
