Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine and spotlights upcoming releases that we are eagerly anticipating.
American Street by Ibi Zoboi
It will be released on February 14, 2017 by Balzer + Bray.
This is a story about immigration, life, family, school, friends. I can’t wait to read this book.
The cover, seriously. It’s so beautiful. This year is the year of beautiful covers.
Synopsis
On the corner of American Street and Joy Road, Fabiola Toussaint thought she would finally find une belle vie — a good life.
But after they leave Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Fabiola’s mother is detained by U.S. immigration, leaving Fabiola to navigate her loud American cousins, Chantal, Donna, and Princess; the grittiness of Detroit’s west side; a new school; and a surprising romance, all on her own.
Just as she finds her footing in this strange new world, a dangerous proposition presents itself, and Fabiola soon realizes that freedom comes at a cost. Trapped at the crossroads of an impossible choice, will she pay the price for the American dream?
I can’t wait for this one! And I have to totally agree, this cover is beautiful! 2017 is really shaping up to be a year of amazing covers. As a person who cover buys a lot this could be very dangerous haha

Good luck! I don’t envy that job. Maybe break it down by quarters or at the rate things are going into months? Haha It’s so hard 😛

I enjoyed the writing in this book immensely. Fabiola (main protog) was a strong character who held strong in her beliefs, traditions, and family. Great pick! I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did 😉

I cannot wait to read this book. I love these kind of books that has family involved. You don’t truly get to see that often in YA.
