October 18: Ten Characters I’d Name A Child/Dog/Cat/Car/Etc.
After we did this topic back in 2011 and thought it might be fun to revisit it…feel free to spin it how you need!
I am going to break down in categories because there are so many characters that I wanted to name. I am thinking to do two categories, maybe more; we will see how it come together. I might or might not have a long explanation of why I would name a child or a pet.
With my name being so common, back in high school, if someone called out, “Nicole!” You would see maybe 5 or 6 girls that would turn around. I do not want that for my kids. I want them to have their own names that they can be proud of, same goes for my pets. I have a cat named Zoe and you do not see that often with cats, only dogs.
The names that I would give my children
1. Luna, Harry Potter Series, J.K. Rowling
I love how unique and how strong Luna is. She does not try to be like other women, she is being herself and have her own values. I would love to have a daughter like her. She does not treat Harry as the Boy Who Lived. She treats him as Harry, just Harry. She does not see the fame, the money, etc like others do. She also understood how it is to lose a parent and how hard to see other people have parents.
2. Katniss, The Hunger Games Trilogy, Suzanne Collins
The world that Suzanne Collins is a place that I do not want to be living in. The people were weary and tired, especially Katniss. She had to take care of her sister, her mother, and herself along with Gale and his family since her father were killed in a mine accident. She had to hunt for food, illegally, that is. She then volunteers as a tribute after her sister’s name were called. After that, everything went down. She is strong, she brings hope. She is the glue that keeps people going.
3. Mia, Nevernight, Jay Kristoff
I have not finished this book but with what I have read. I respect her. She has gone through that no child should have gone through. She is strong, stubborn, loyal, smart, and wise. She lives in a world that is so harsh and grew up with a man who could easily hurt her but he did not. He raised her to the best of his abilities and hope she would have a long life.
4. Tristan, The Moon Dwellers, David Estes
I have always loved his name the moment I saw it in the book. It somehow works with the character that David wrote. He is strong and ready to make changes in the world he lives in. It is unique and different. I am in love.
5. Ezra, Illuminae, Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
The explanation will be short and sweet. I like who he is.
The names that I would give my pets
6. Winter, The Lunar Chronicles, Marissa Meyer
I have not read any of The Lunar Chronicles but I love the name. It would be perfect for any pet that is like snow. Maybe it would be a name for an all white Huskey with blue eyes. I have always wanted one.
7. Hedwig; Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling
The relationship between Harry and Hedwig always give me the feels. I have that with my own cat but nothing like this. She listened to him, she was his protector, she was his family that he did not have growing up.
8. Marley, Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World’s Worst Dog; John Grogan
I admit that I have not read the book but I loved the movie. It moved me. It brought tears to my eyes. In fact, I have a good friend of mine actually named her dog after Marley.
9. Mr. Kindly, Nevernight, Jay Kristoff
The next time I get a black cat, I am so naming them Mr. Kindly. The relationship with Mia and Mr. Kindley is just perfect.
10. Flora, The Last Camellia, Sarah Jio
Sarah Jio is one of my all-time favorite authors. I loved this book. It is one of my favorite books from her and I loved the name. I thought it would be a good name for a pet since the book is about flowers and I love flowers. Perfect.
I have Luna on my list as well, although my list is just characters I would name my pets after.

Yeah, most of them are just perfect for the pets. Luna is perfect for a beautiful black cat. That’s what I have planned on as well if I do not have a child.

Luna is a beautiful name and an awesome character! ❤ I also really like the name Mia. Flora is beautiful, too – I actually have a girl in one of my classes whose name is Flora 🙂

Hedwig and Winter are such perfect names for pets! I have a little black and white kitten who I almost named Winter just because it’s so fitting. Winnie is a super cute nickname too, for pets and for a child too! My TTT: http://glitteringreads.com/2016/10/18/ten-wonderful-names-i-might-just-use-for-my-future-cats/

Not surprising but I don’t think I will ever going to use Katniss, since the middle name that I have wanted for a daughter does not go well with Katniss.
